Andy Murray signs new sports sponsorship deal but it’s nothing to do with tennis

ANDY MURRAY has put pen to paper on a lucrative new sports sponsorship deal – but it has NOTHING to do with tennis.

The three-time Grand Slam tennis champ is now coaching Novak Djokovic after calling time on his illustrious career in the sport last summer.

His coaching relationship with the Serb is set to continue for the foreseeable future – including what is sure to be a high-profile tilt at Wimbledon.

But he’s got plenty of down time on his hands too – and the Scot plans to spend a massive chunk of that working on his golf game.

He’s already teed it up with professionals such as Scottish golf hero Bob MacIntyre at Wentworth in the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am.

While he may be competing all that often, he’s deadly serious about his desire to get his handicap down and isn’nt a man to be underestimated.

After all, he famously changed his social media profile with the words: “I used to play tennis. Now I play golf.”

And now golf club manufacturers Callaway have officially signed him up as an ambassador.

The help of golf equipment giants Callaway is sure to be a massive bonus as he continues his quest to master two sports.

He said: “I’ve been playing a lot of golf since I retired from tennis and Callaway have been supporting me with this.

“I was fitted at their European Performance Centre in September and I’ve been using their clubs since then.

“It’s made a huge difference to my performance already. I’m hoping to reduce my handicap so I’m looking forward to working with them to keep improving my game.”

Chris Gregg, Callaways marketing director for EMEA, added: “Andy’s dedication and competitive mindset have made him one of the most respected athletes in the world and we’re proud to welcome him to the Callaway family.

“His enthusiasm for golf is infectious, and we can’t wait to support him on this journey while creating content that inspires both existing and new golfers alike.”
