When it comes to thrilling shows online, only some manage to grab the full attention of the viewers. In this, adaptations hold a special place, given the huge popularity of Game of Thrones, which was based on the novels of author George R.R. Martin. The same was true for Reacher as well, which was based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books.
Presenting actor Alan Ritchson as the lead, the show quickly gained a huge fan following and broke several records on Prime Video when it premiered in 2022.

Since then, fans have been hooked on its amazing storylines and complex characters. Now, the show has broken yet another record and solidified its place as one of the most sought-after shows on a streaming platform.
Reacher Season 3 breaks Prime Video’s biggest streaming record
With its well-built characters and storylines, Reacher quickly amassed a huge fan following as soon as it was released in 2022. It brought actor Alan Ritchson to the forefront with his role as Jack Reacher, and in 2025, the show continues to dominate Prime Video.
Not surprisingly, Season 3 of the show, based on Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books, has pulled in a staggering 54.6 million viewers worldwide via Variety.

They achieved this feat within its first 19 days, making it the most-watched returning season in Prime Video history. As a result, the third season has easily edged past Season 2’s already impressive viewership by 0.5%. It has also become the biggest season debut on the platform since Fallout.
The show has a massive global reach, with more than half of its audience coming from outside the United States. It recorded particularly strong numbers in the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Germany. With this, Alan Ritchson should also get his due credit for bringing the iconic vigilante to the screen.
With the current ongoing season, and much to the surprise of many, Amazon has already greenlit a fourth season of the show. Given the record this season has broken, the fourth is also expected to take the streaming platform by storm.
Not Tom Cruise, but Alan Ritchson was the perfect Jack Reacher according to Lee Child
Tom Cruise is easily one of the most bankable and highest-earning actors in Hollywood. With his Mission: Impossible movies and death-defying stunts, he has garnered a huge fan following. But for Lee Child, when it comes to playing Jack Reacher, Alan Ritchson is a way better choice than Cruise, and he has a good reason behind it as well.

Long before Reacher came to Prime Video in 2022, Cruise played the role in its 2012 and 2016 movie adaptations. While there’s no doubt he brought a lot of intensity and star power to the project, his physical features did not align with the character in the books. Cruise has a height of 5’7″, which is in complete contrast to the towering 6’5″ Reacher in the books. A lot of backlash followed after fans spotted this difference on screen.
Lee Child reflected on the backlash via The Independent and admitted, “The readers, ultimately, were right.” While he praised Cruise’s performance, he recognized that Reacher’s physical features were an important part of his identity. So, when it came to the Prime Video adaptation, he sought to correct the casting by bringing in Alan Ritchson.
He not only brought the physical element to the role but also had a commanding presence on screen. Alan Ritchson quickly gained a huge fan following, and his casting was something fans acknowledged as being in sync with the books.
You can watch all the seasons of Reacher on Prime Video.
