A POPULAR supermarket chain has dropped a range of medical home testing kits for menopause, thyroid and iron deficiency from €8.
Tesco Ireland chiefs have released Silex at-home health tests, giving shoppers an easy way to screen for common health issues.

All tests are priced at €8, with some coming in packs of two, working out at just €4 per test.
Each one is designed for self-testing at home and comes with straightforward instructions, rapid results and clinically tested accuracy.
To start, Tesco is offering the Silex Menopause Self-Test in a pack of two for €8, designed to detect levels of follicle-stimulating hormone to help assess menopause.
The test is taken using urine and gives a result within five minutes, with a result window that compares the test line to a control line for accuracy.
A strong or equal line suggests perimenopause, while a fainter line indicates normal FSH levels – a quick option for those experiencing irregular periods, night sweats or mood changes.
Next up is the Silex Iron Deficiency Self-Test for €8, which uses a blood sample to screen for low iron levels by detecting ferritin concentration.
It’s a cassette-based test that gives results in just five minutes, and can help flag iron deficiency anaemia – often associated with fatigue, hair thinning or brittle nails.
After applying a drop of blood and buffer solution, the results show whether ferritin levels fall within or outside the normal range.
Also priced at €8, the Silex Underactive Thyroid Self-Test checks for elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone in the blood.
The test is done with a finger prick, requires two drops of buffer and takes around 10 minutes to produce results which is shown as coloured lines on the cassette.
Symptoms like low energy, memory issues, and heavy periods may suggest an underactive thyroid and this test offers a shoppers quick way to check.
Tesco is also stocking a Silex Urinary Tract Infection Self-Test, which comes with two dipsticks for only €8.
It only takes one to two seconds of immersion to use, with clear results ready in just two minutes, and an accuracy rate of 99.5 per cent.
Quick and accurate results
This is a useful option for anyone experiencing a burning sensation when urinating, and it can detect signs of infection like leukocytes, nitrites and blood in the urine.
Another product in the range is the Silex Vitamin D Self-Test for €8, which helps check whether your levels are sufficient.
The test involves drawing a small blood sample, adding two drops of buffer and comparing the colour result to a provided card.
It has over 94 per cent accuracy and can be helpful for those who feel fatigued, have bone aches, or get limited sunlight exposure.
Lastly, the Silex Vaginal Infection Self-Test is available for €8 and checks vaginal pH to help identify possible cases of bacterial vaginosis.
Users apply a swab to the pH panel and the colour result appears in just one minute – with yellow-green indicating a normal range and green-blue suggesting abnormal pH.
All six self-tests are available now in Tesco Ireland stores – and savvy shoppers must act fast.
