Deadline closing for evil killer Richard Satchwell to lodge appeal on conviction for murdering wife Tina in Cork home

EVIL killer Richard Satchwell has until the end of today (Wed) to lodge an appeal against his conviction for murdering his wife Tina.

The English-born truck driver was convicted at the end of last month of horrifically killing the 45-year-old in their home in Youghal, Co Cork, in March, 2017.

The evil murderer hid her body in a concrete grave under their stairs for six-and-a-half years.

He was subsequently jailed for life on June 4 – and has 21 days from that date to lodge any appeal with the High Court office.

A source told the Irish Sun: “He can only appeal his conviction, not the sentence, because he was given the mandatory sentence for a conviction of murder.

“He has 21 days from the date of his sentence to lodge his appeal papers with the High Court and that is yet to be done.

“The 21-day deadline expires at close of business on Wednesday, so he has until then to get the papers in so that the appeal process can begin.

“He can apply for an extension of that 21-day deadline but this must be done in public before the court and there’s no sign that his legal team have sought a mention date to deal with that.”

On the day he was sentenced to life, his barrister Brendan Grehan SC informed the court that Satchwell, who told Gardai that his wife was prone to violent outbursts towards him, planned to appeal because he “never intended to kill Tina”.

Mr Grehan also told how the murderer said “despite anything he said in the trial, Tina was a lovely person”.

Satchwell, 58, had denied murdering Tina at their home at Grattan Street, Youghal, Co Cork between March 19 and March 20, 2017.

His trial heard that on March 24, 2017, he told gardai that Tina had left the marital home four days earlier following a deterioration in their relationship.

He formally reported her missing the following May.

Her body was then discovered over six years later in October 2023 when gardai conducting “an invasive search” of the Satchwell home found her decomposed remains in a grave that had been dug almost one metre deep underneath the stairs.

Satchwell then told gardai that his wife “flew” at him with a chisel, that he fell backwards against the floor and she died as he tried to hold her off at the neck by the belt of her bathrobe.

He told them he then put her body in a chest freezer before removing it, wrapping it in black plastic sheeting and burying it in the concrete grave under the stairs.

JAIL JOB

Earlier this month we revealed how Satchwell has landed himself a cushy prison job as a cleaner.

The 58-year-old was sent from Dublin’s Wheatfield Prison back to the B-division of Limerick Prison, where he has been assigned the job of tidying up the staff area.

He is also on an enhanced regime, which means he gets extra phone calls and privileges.
