Orlando Pirates are set to announce a new coach and captain for the 2025/26 season.
Orlando Pirates parted ways with Jose Riveiro before the close of the 2024/25 PSL campaign. Thereafter, club captain Innocent Maela was confirmed as one of four players who left the Bucs.
Meaning, Pirates will have a new captain and coach and we have a very good idea who both men will be.
PIRATES TO APPOINT FORMER SUNDOWNS COACH
Pirates have been linked with some huge names including Pitso Mosimane, Rulani Mokwena, Manqoba Mngqithi and Bucs and Bafana Bafana legend, Benni McCarthy.
However, McCarthy and Mngqithi are no longer in the picture.
That is because, McCarthy is now in charge of Kenya. Whilst, Mngqithi has just started his new venture as head coach of PSL rivals, Golden Arrows, as reported on Goal.
That leaves two ex-Sundowns head coaches as the strongest candidates – Mosimane and Mokwena. Furthermore, reports claim that Pirates have already decided to appoint this man as the next head coach.
LIKELY NEXT BUCS CAPTAIN REVEALED
Whether it is Mokwena or Mosimane or an international coach, the responsibily and pressure is the same.
Whoever is appointed as the next Pirates coach has huge boots to fill. Jose Riveiro brought the Bucs five domestic trophies and brought them up and into the CAF Champions League semi finals.
Furthermore, the next coach must appoint a new Bucs captain. Their are two men who are favoured for this position – Tapelo Xoki and Nkosinathi Sibisi.
It is the former, Xoki who is favoured to be the next Pirates captain, as reported on The South African.
IS RULANI MOKWENA THE RIGHT MAN TO COACH PIRATES? WHO SHOULD BE THE NET BUCS CAPTAIN?
