The subject matter of Chainsaw Man is quite unique and has reached the right audience. There are darker and melancholic storylines, but there’s also plenty of enjoyable elements for casual watchers. However, all this enjoyment is getting hurt by the anime’s release schedule.
Irrespective of the length, most anime nowadays follow the seasonal schedule. As a result, it has become easier to watch anime with minimal fillers. Out of all the new generation anime, Chainsaw Man seems to be still following the older format.

Compared to other anime like Jujutsu Kaisen or Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Chainsaw Man fans don’t always have the next installment of the franchise in sight.
The older format hurts Chainsaw Man’s hype
Chainsaw Man anime started its brief run of 12 episodes in 2022. While the animation was fluid and translated the appeal of the fight scenes quite well, it took time for fans to get accustomed to the muted colors. By the final episode, fans were already hooked and were eagerly looking forward to a sequel announcement. A sequel movie was announced in December 2023, contrary to the expectations of a sequel season.

The release window of the film has already been announced and it’s scheduled for a release in 2025. However, that’s as much as we know. The animation looks stunning in the trailers. At first, the hype was unmatched but it’s safe to assume that it has waned a little since the beginning. The reason why that has happened is simple: there’s no visible end in sight to the agonizing wait.
Knowing that the movie will be released sometime this year doesn’t do much when we know that there can be a huge difference between the Japanese and international release date. Loving a show and waiting in uncertainty for its sequel is an experience only veteran anime fans knew, but MAPPA is allowing newer fans to experience something similar with Chainsaw Man.
Chainsaw Man stands out among the modern lot

Compared to Chainsaw Man, all its contemporaries are getting better treatment as far as the release format goes. For instance, the release updates of Jujutsu Kaisen are swift and fans always have something tangible to look forward to. Before fans could even recover from season 2, the Culling Games Arc was already announced. Although the information regarding that is also scarce.
While JJK might be following a faster format, Frieren has struck a balance as it made fans wait but the eventual announcement was reassuring. Moreover, the first season of Frieren was 28-episodes-long, whereas CSM just had 12 episodes.

It’d be better if Studio MAPPA focuses on maintaining a steady momentum and hype after the release of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc. Even if there’s a substantial wait between the movie and whatever comes next, there should be enough episodes to keep fans around.
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is scheduled to release in 2025, and the anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
