‘Pardon?’ – Rangers-daft Ewen Ferguson cringes as he recalls awkward moment with golf legend Tiger Woods

GOLF is a game of pressure putts and mental resilience.

But Scottish star of the DP Tour, Ewen Ferguson, admitted he lost all composure at The Open last year.

Ferguson had an awkward moment during his preparations at Troon[/caption]

Thankfully for the Bearsden golfer – it wasn’t during his round.

But he still had a moment of panic and thought he’d blown his big moment.

Registering his third tour win at the BMW International in Germany last July he earned a place at Royal Troon and Ferguson soon found himself among the game’s greats, and one in particular.

Tiger Woods.

And by his own admission, fan-boy Ferguson was starstruck.

Not over-awed enough to ask for a photo, however.

And that led to an awkward exchange that left him cringing – but with a memento for life.

Friends and family sent him videos of the pair practising alongside one another before Ferguson took matters into his own hands.

He said: “I’d never played in the same tournament as Tiger before so I’d never heard anything like it.

“It was really cool. I was on the putting green and I heard mad screaming and I thought that’s weird.

“I turned around and I’m like, sure it’s Tiger! That makes so much sense why people would be going that crazy.

“He literally walked right by me, I could feel his aura – and he smelled AMAZING.

“He walked just right by and I’m so nervous now – I was doing a putting drill and missing. He was looking and started putting right beside me.

“I’m putting one way, he’s putting the other and I’ve got a video of it.

I thought ‘Oh No, what have you done?’

“People were sending me videos on Instagram and all that.

“I thought right, I’ve had enough I’m leaving.

So as I’m walking out I’m walking through the sea of people, obviously not giving a care about me but waiting for Tiger.

“As I walk off I hear people going crazy again, sure enough he’s walking right behind me.

“I need to give my phone to my caddy and say can you get me a wee picture of Tiger? Otherwise I probably wouldn’t ask because there’s a lot going on but he’s walked out – perfect timing.

“I was like ‘Tiger, any chance of a photo?’

“He went, ‘Pardon?’ and I thought ‘Oh no, you’re joking, what have I done?’

“So I go ‘Any chance of a photo please?’ and he went, ‘Absolutely’.

The legend duly obliged – but the Rangers stars’ envy[/caption]

“We stood there for a photo and he was like ‘Go get him this week’.

“So that was that, and it was just cool. He’s obviously someone you look up to all the time.

“It was cool to meet Tiger and then it was a good week.”

Away from the golf course Ferguson is a well-known Rangers fan, and recalled his moment with Woods on the DP World Tour‘s social channels.

His priceless pic, posted on Instagram drew some admiration from his football heroes too.

Ally McCoist liked the image on his @ewbof account while Richard Gough replied: “What a great picture Ewen.”
