Of course, we are talking about State of Decay, and yes, you heard it right, SoD is finally coming back with a bang.
This third-person survival horror franchise is finally getting its third installment in the series, and we cannot control our happiness. Let’s find out when State of Decay 3 will be released.
Xbox Game Studios really outdid themselves with SoD
State of Decay is one of the best zombie shooter franchises out there currently. The series made by Undead Labs features a plethora of gameplay elements and has two installments, the first game featured a solo only campaign, and the second game enabled cooperative multiplayer. Although the first game did not captivate players to that extreme, State of Decay 2 is the magnum opus of the series.
While other hoard zombie games are mostly about killing the zombies and surviving through guns and ammunition, SoD is quite opposite. These games focus more on avoiding the zombies, scavenging for resources, and interacting with other survivors. The game literally pulls out the extreme survival instincts from the players and focuses more on the genuine human behaviour rather than “See Zombie, Shoot Zombie“.
The last game in the series came out in 2018, and while there is no exact release date for when the third installment will be released, in a YouTube podcast, XB2, industry insider Jez Corden revealed that the game will come out in the first half of 2026.
If it isnt GTA related, then let’s face it, it most likely is, but let’s just imagine it’s not GTA related maybe they are just like deciding around when some of their other games are launching cause I’ve heard that State of Decay 3 could be launching in the first half of next year. So you don’t want to launch Fable on top of State of Decay 3 because from what I’ve heard, State of Decay 3 could be a banger you know a serious banger.
Corden also mentions to take this information as a podcast rumor and not as a source report, emphasizing the fact that the delay should be taken as an industry rumor instead of a confirmed launch window.

State of Decay 3 has been in the works for years, and fans of the series have been waiting for the game eagerly. Xbox initially planned to release the third installment in 2025 for both PC and Xbox systems, and now insider information suggests that the game will come out in the first half of 2026, which is quite heart-wrenching.
The last two games of the series have been absolute bangers, and nothing can change our minds. The games’ intensity and world-building are what makes the entire franchise worth playing, and it’s more fun when it’s a fight for survival with your friends.
