North West’s Heart-Wrenching Instagram Post Shows Where She Stands With Dad Kanye West

North West just made about as close to a public statement about her parents’ divorce as she can. The 11-year-old shared a new post on Instagram, and we agree with the follower who said, “THIS IS SO SAD😭.”

North posted two photos on her Instagram that is supervised by mom Kim Kardashian. The first photo is a recent selfie with the words “sometimes I wish that I could freeze” written over it. The next is a throwback photo of North and her siblings — Saint, Chicago, and Psalm — sitting on a staircase with Kardashian and their dad Kanye West. She and Saint are cheesing hard, and the former couple holds their younger kiddos on their laps.

“The picture,” North wrote over that photo with a white heart emoji. The whole thing is set to ABBA’s “Slipping Through My Fingers.”

And no matter how you feel about West and the vitriol he spews, you have to agree that it’s heart-wrenching to see a tween wanting to “freeze the picture” on a moment in time when her parents were still together. Clearly she still has a lot of love for her dad.

“This is actually so sad 😭 poor North,” another follower commented.

Apparently the divorce really impacted North (as it does most kids) and even made her lash out at her mom. There was “a year of like [North being] mad at me,” Kardashian told sister Kourtney in a recent episode of The Kardashians.

In case you need a refresher, Kardashian and West tied the knot in 2014, filed for divorce in 2021, and finalized the divorce a year later.

Kanye West and daughter North West attends the “Yeezy Season 8” show as part of the Paris Fashion Week Womenswear Fall/Winter 2020/2021 on March 02, 2020.

In a 2023 episode of the reality show, the SKIMS founder got candid about how she didn’t know how to deal with West’s bigoted and erratic behavior when it came to co-parenting. In a tearful confessional, she talked about how hard and “confusing” it was to see the person she once loved become someone else.

“ … The whole situation is sad and I don’t know how to handle it,” she continued. “I’m conflicted because I don’t ever want to jump in and be a part of a downfall for the father of my kids.”

The SKIMS founder said she is in “protection mode” and trying to “hide everything” from her kids.

“It’s just hard for me to figure out, if they don’t know anything, why wouldn’t Dad come over for dinner? Why isn’t Dad at my things?” she said. “That kills me. Because then I’m embarrassed that people are going to say something at a game or a function. … So I’ve been managing it the best way that I know how because I want my kids to see a healthy dad.”

“It’s just a lot.”

And yet, even if it’s a lot, and even if West’s behavior has been widely condemned, there’s still a place for him in the young girl’s heart — who just wants to “freeze” a time in her life when her parents were together.
