Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather warned followers on X, formerly Twitter, that Tuesday will see those temperatures start dropping.

However, after the hottest day of the year so far yesterday it will remain dry amid the temperature drop.

Alan explained: “Very little rain to come over next 7 days but it will turn cooler from Tuesday.”

He added this morning: “Down to -0.8c at my station with a little frost to start but some areas up to 9c.

“A pretty good day ahead again with sunny spells.”

Temperatures today will sit between 9C and 11C in Ulster and parts of Leinster while the rest of the country will enjoy higher temperatures of 12C to 15C.

Mist or fog lingering this morning will clear, with sunny spells developing later.

Patches of mist and drizzle are possible but it will be a mainly dry day.

Tonight will again be dry but with mist and fog developing across the country, cloud also building as the night progresses.

And temperatures will drop right down to -1C in places.

Frost and mist patches lingering from Monday night will clear early Tuesday but daytime temperatures staying “quite cold”.

Met Eireann’s Gerry Murphy said: “On Tuesday morning any frost or mist or fog patches will clear to give a mainly dry day with sunny spells.

“In the evening scattered showers will move down over Ulster and it will be a cold day with highest temperatures of 6C to 8C and light to moderate northerly breezes.”

Tuesday night will be “cold with clear spells” with some wintry showers possible on high ground and temperatures down to 0C.

More wintry showers possible through Wednesday, especially on hills in the east and north.

Elsewhere it will be a “cold, breezy day with sunny spells” and scattered showers mixed in.

Temperatures will sit at highs of 5C to 8C overnight before a drop to -1C overnight.

‘THE NIGHTS WILL BE COLD’

Looking to Thursday and Friday there is very little change on the cards for the forecast.

Temperatures will plummet even further down to -2C overnight on Friday with frost developing.

Met Eireann outline: “Thursday and Friday will both be cold with a good deal of dry weather, but with some showers also, mainly in the east and north.

“A few may be wintry. Highest temperatures of 6C to 9C.

“The nights will be cold with frost, especially on Friday night when temperatures will fall to between -2C and 0C.”

And no rise in nighttime temperatures over the weekend with frost still a problem over Saturday and Sunday.

However, the days will stay bright and dry with temperatures sitting around 10C.
