Fact Check: Did ‘One Punch Man’ Season 3 Use Only One Animator for Its Preview?

One Punch Man Season 3 has been taking many blows in recent times, and J.C.Staff has not been inspiring confidence among the fans. Neither the key visuals nor the preview (the first promotional video for One Punch Man Season 3) has been satisfactory or reassuring.

The fans have been disappointed with the studio ever since the failure with Season 2, but this second opportunity at redemption seems to be a waste, as the promotional material (release set for Fall 2026) seems to be of average quality.

The preview of One Punch Man and the subsequent backlash

With the immense amount of time that J.C. Staff had (more than six years between the Seasons), fans expected a lot of dedication. A new X (formerly Twitter) post takes this into a new perspective, as many speculate that the PV was a rushed job.

This all started one fine day when an X post shocked the One Punch Man fanbase. A user (@Oza_Kazu), posted that he was brought in by J.C. Staff and was deeply involved in the making of the preview.

This has stirred up controversy among fans since this animator and the animation quality raise many concerns. The quality of a preview of the first trailer is usually filled with hype, scenes and intense visuals.

But as we can see in the preview, it is bland and does not seem to showcase anything new. The fact that this user is claiming to have contributed a lot to the preview makes it all the more confusing. Why did J.C. Staff not have their animators work on the preview?

Was the preview really a solo effort?

And if it was this Oza_Kazu who made most (or all of it), then why was it done this way? Why would a prestigious studio let one animator handle the preview so much that he posted about it?

Animator Oza_Kazu’s translated tweet reads-

I was asked to make a PV, so this time I did the animation supervision. Since it was a character, I think I worked harder than usual.

This statement suggests that from the key animation to supervision, Oza_Kazu seems to have done most of the heavy lifting. Granted, the preview was extremely disappointing, making the users doubt how the studio would manage the production of the series.

However, the tweet seems to suggest that it wasn’t a failure after all of the efforts but a half-baked one. It isn’t clear and doesn’t explicitly confirm that Oza_Kazu worked alone, but from the way he has claimed credit, it seems he has done a fair amount of the total work.

Compared to the exceptional art quality in the manga, the animation in the preview seems amateurish, with no relation to the first season of the anime. If this one animator took on a heavy workload, and that is why the preview ended up being so dissatisfying, why did J.C.Staff not allot more resources?

One Punch Man is one of the most famous series, and even if the studio had anime like Railgun in the making, neglecting it after the many delays does not seem to make sense.

One Punch Man is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
