Calling all Mutton Buster up for Reno Rodeo

The Reno Rodeo Association Mutton Bustin’ Championships are set to stampede into action during Kids’ Day on Sunday, June 22, 2025 in the Reno Livestock Events Center Indoor Arena. Starting March 10, applications for this sheep-riding showdown will be open to the public.

To secure a spot in the corral, eligible contestants must be no less than five years of age, no more than seven years of age and may not weigh more than 65 pounds as of June 19, 2025. Participants will be required to don authentic Western attire, including long-sleeved shirts, pants and boots. Helmets and vests, generously provided by sponsors, are mandatory during the ride. Only participants and one adult wrangler will be permitted in the chute area to ensure a secure and safe experience for all.

Check-in will start at 9:45 a.m. on Kids’ Day, where participants will receive back numbers for identification. The event comprises five go-rounds, each featuring 20 participants, with the top ten advancing to the 9th Annual Reno Rodeo Mutton Bustin’ Championship. Trophies await the top three riders, and the ultimate champion will score a coveted belt buckle.

Applications will open on the Reno Rodeo website on Monday, March 10 at 8 a.m. and close on Friday, March, 14 at midnight. There is no fee to apply. A computerized draw will determine the lucky 100 participants, with additional applicants placed on a waiting list.
