Photoshopped images of the star naked have been cropping up online[/caption]
Naga, 49, revealed paid-for advertising was running on social media sites X and Facebook.
While some claim she’s been involved in a scandal, others are far more sinister.
Writing for the BBC, Naga explained: “Paid-for advertisements are popping up across X and Facebook, some including crudely mocked-up images of me naked – my face badly photoshopped onto someone else’s body.
“I was both mortified and bemused, curious about who would pay good money to spread such obvious nonsense. And what was their motive?
“Is it something malicious? Someone with an axe to grind?”
The news anchor went on to say that she and her BBC Radio team started to investigate the adverts.
It transpired fraudsters were using her image and public profile to scam people out of money.
Naga continued: “The fake article about me suggested I had been detained by the government following a “controversial” interview on ITV‘s This Morning, where I allegedly gave details about a “lucrative loophole” to make money.
“It was made to look like a BBC News article, complete with logo and branding, and it contained links to a scam cyber trading website, which has now been taken down after my production team reported it to the BBC legal team.”
The Sun understands other celebrities targeted by fake adverts recently include Stacey Solomon and Helen Skelton.
Munchetty added that while the BBC legal team were able to have one fake website taken down, it’s likely more will pop up.
Naga’s first first job in TV came when she worked at Reuters Financial Television, which was later followed by roles at CNBC Europe, Channel 4 News and Bloomberg Television.
The news anchor has been working for the BBC since 2008 when she joined the BBC Working Lunch Team.
