Josephine Lloyd-Welcome made various guest appearances as Dr. Patel in 2004, 2008 and 2009.
Although Josephine is returning to the soap, she will be playing a brand new role.
The actress has already begun filming her scenes and will be on-screen this summer.
The Sun has approached Coronation Street for comment.
Josephine also portrayed separate character Raveena Bhatia for a four-episode stint in 2012.
She appeared as the boss of show regular Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou) at Weatherfield General.
Her original character, Dr. Patel, treated Sunita Alahan during her pregnancy.
In 2008, Gail Platt called on her to check in on then- neighbour Jerry Morton, who’d felt unwell.
The actress’ other credits include episodes of Doctor Who, Where the Heart is, Casualty and Doctors.
It comes as The Sun revealed Coronation Street has signed up a Brookside legend for a brand new role.
Actress Sarah White played Bev Dixon for a decade on Brookside until it was axed in 2003.
The Sun told how she has signed up for a brief stint on the cobbles.
A source said: “Sarah will be playing a mediator as part of Theo Silverton’s acrimonious divorce from wife Danielle.
“She’s filming now and will be seen on screen later this year.”
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
