‘Lightning damage’ alert amid major thunderstorm warning as Met Eireann pinpoints 14 counties at risk & flood threat

MET Eireann have issued major new thunderstorm and rainfall warnings for 14 counties across today and tomorrow.

The Status Yellow Warnings kicked in from earlier this afternoon and some will remain in place until tomorrow morning.

Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath and Wicklow were placed under a Status Yellow Thunderstorm Warning from 12.25pm this afternoon.

The warning will remain in place until 4pm today.

Met Eireann warned of “possible thunderstorms” with “lightening damage” alongside the warning.

And four counties have also been slapped with a rain warning alongside a thunder alert.

Clare, Kerry, Limerick and Galway have been issued a Status Yellow Rain and Thunderstorm warning.

The alert will come in from 7pm this evening and will remain in place until 7am tomorrow morning.

Met Eireann said: “Heavy spells of rain with thunderstorms possible.”

And the weather bosses also outlined the potential impacts expected alongside the warning.

They include surface water flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

Lightening damage is also a threat in these four counties.
