Whether you’re heading to a music festival or enjoying a quiet camping trip with the family, the hot weather can make tents uncomfortable and stuffy this summer.

Thankfully, experts have revealed the handy hack you can use to tackle this issue without breaking the budget.

The pros at SeatPick has shared the last-minute trick festival-goers and campers can use to beat the summer heat.

While it’s best to invest in a good-quality tent, some people may opt for a cheaper set-up after forking out for festival tickets.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t take steps to elevate your budget experience.

DIY hack

The experts urged anyone staying in a tent during the current high temperatures to “utilise reflective tarps”.

“A reflective tarp goes under and above the tent and helps to keep it cool by reflecting light or heat off it,” they explained.

“By doing this, campers can reap the benefits of expensive tents without spending hundreds of pounds.”

While tarps can be found for as little as £5 on eBay, a kitchen staple does the same trick.

A roll of tin foil can also prove useful when insulating your tent in a pinch.

You can pick up a roll of tin foil for just 99p from Sainsbury’s.

Keep cool

Campers should also ensure their tent has proper airflow throughout the night.

According to the experts, every tent should have two vents, one on each side of the space, to let air enter, circulate, and exit.

Tightening the guy lines can also help to ensure the tent has adequate airflow.

While stuffy tents can be uncomfortable to sleep in, they can also cause condensation to form on your belongings.

How to keep cool in a heatwave

Most of us welcome hot weather, but when it’s too hot, there are health risks. Here are three ways to keep cool according to the NHS…

Keep out of the heat if you can.

If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

Cool yourself down.

Have cold food and drinks, avoid alcohol, caffeine and hot drinks, and have a cool shower or put cool water on your skin or clothes.

Keep your living space cool.

Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep.

To prevent this, you should cover all your clothes and backpacks in rubbish bags during the night.

It is also important to keep your body cool and hydrated in the hot conditions.

Take electrolytes to help with fluid regulation, muscle function, and heart rhythm.

And to cool down in a hurry, apply ice packs to pulse points, such as the wrists, temples, neck, inner elbows, and knees, where blood vessels are closer to the skin.
