I was so excited after buying a dupe for Jenny Packham’s £3.7k sequin dress on Shein – but was horrified by what arrived

SHOPPING online can be a gamble, as sometimes what arrives looks nothing like the photo.

This was certainly true of one woman who was excited to have found a dupe for a Jenny Packham £3,700 gown on Shein.

Shopper Morgan thought she’d found the most stunning ball gown on Shein for a bargain price[/caption]

She was shocked when the dress she ordered looking nothing like the photo when it arrived[/caption]

The floor-length gorgeous gown was adorned with sequins and had glamorous shoulder capes which cascaded down the back.

However, the reality of what arrived was far from this image.

Dr Morgan Tracy, 28, uploaded a clip of the Shein dress arrived in the post, and it looked like a completely different gown.

On her @morgantracy8 account, she wrote: “Wait for it.

“The worst dress I’ve ever seen… I am shooketh.”

Instead of a heavy sequined material, the Shein dress appeared to have a photo of the other dress printed onto some thin material.

There were also no caped shoulders in sight.

Morgan added: “Dude it’s SOOO bad!! my mom was gonna wear this to my wedding.”

Unsurprisingly, she added: “Yeah we are gonna find her a different dress.”

People were shocked when they saw the expectation vs reality photos in the clip.

One said: “OMG LMAOOOOOOOOO.”

Another added: “Omg.”

The fast fashion brand has become the go-to-destination for low cost clothes, with influencers doing mega hauls with endless items on Tiktok.

But Morgan hasn’t been the only person to experience the horror of opening a parcel to find that what she ordered is very different to what she received.

BUYER’S REMORSE

Emily Probst ordered a ball gown from the fast fashion giant, only to be sent a dress that looked “not even close” to the pictures.

“I suppose this is what I get for using Shein,” she said on Facebook.

But what she received looked nothing like the pictures[/caption]

Emily picked up a dress with a satin skirt and sleeveless mesh bodice adorned with glitter and gems.

In a weird turn of events, she was sent a short-sleeve frock littered with sequins.

The only similarity was the length of the dresses and the blush pink colour.

“It’s not even close,” one person commented.

“The original has barely any sequins on it and the one you received is drowning in them,” another social media user added.

“How does that make sense?”

What is Shein and is it legit?

Shein is an online-only fast-fashion retailer, based out of China, that has become a number one shopping destination for many around the world.

The company was valued at $66billion in 2023, dwarfing that of popular high street brands Zara and H&M.

The fashion retailer was founded in late 2008, by entrepreneur and marketing specialist Xu Yangtian, also known as Chris Xu.

Shein is a legitimate selling website and is not a phishing scam.

But you may receive a disappointing order or run into shipping issues if you order from the site, according to reviews.

There have been swathes of quality complaints, which makes sense when looking at the price tag.
