England’s ‘worst motorway’ revealed as 193-mile road used by thousands of drivers every day – how does your route rank?

ENGLAND’S worst motorway has been revealed as drivers share their lack of satisfaction with the state of the country’s roads.

Mounting roadworks and long journey times have been cited as points of frustration by many road users this year.

A survey has found that the M1 is the nation’s least favourite motorway, as road users face mounting roadworks and delays.

The poll, reported by the MailOnline, found that just 57 per cent of drivers satisfied with their journey on the M1.

Other motorways facing low satisfaction included the M27 and M25, both of which got 60 per cent approval each.

They were followed by the M4 and M42 – each of 62 per cent.

But many survey respondents were all to eager to share their frustration at England’s creaking motorway network.

Speaking about the bottom rated M1, one respondent said: “Miles of coned off road with little or no sign of actual work being done.”

Another commented: “Roadworks and average speed checks. M1 is a very difficult road to plan time wise.”

Roadworks still blight many motorists’ travel, with 69 per cent of drivers overall satisfied with their journey according to the MailOnline.

An M3 motorist said: “Speed restrictions on 15-mile section of road for refuge area work.

“This causes massive delays as traffic queues for the M25.

“Why close off such a long section of road when it’s going to take months to complete.”

Another on the M27 complained that there wasn’t a “single worker on site at all during the journey”.

“The completion could be accelerated massively if they worked around the clock,” they added.

It isn’t just England‘s motorways that have drawn the ire of the country’s drivers.

The A47 received the worst rating for an A road, with just  56 per cent of road users happy with their experience on it.

One road user said: “Some parts of the road were in poor condition with evident potholes and gouges.

“Roundabouts were particularly poor.”

At the other end of the scale, the A30 from Exeter to Penzance was rated as England’s best road, according to the survey.
