Why Meghan Markle wore a Northwestern University sweatshirt
On Twitter/X, a fan posted side-by-side photos of Meghan Markle and Princess Diana and accused the former of copying the late royalty’s outfit. In the post, they were both wearing a purple sweatshirt with the name Northwestern on it. Obviously, this is the Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
The netizen said in the caption, “Rachel, you are no Diana. You are just delusional,” in which the name referred to Rachel Zane of Suits, the character that Markle played in the show. Why was she wearing the same sweatshirt as Princess Diana? It’s simply because the actress went to the same college, wherein she graduated in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Theater and International Studies.

Interestingly, Markle almost crossed paths with her late mother-in-law at Northwestern University where Princess Diana visited back in 1996, just three years before the actress started her college journey in 1999. The reason for her official visit was to raise money for the school’s Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center. At the time, the princess was a patron of The Royal Marsden Hospital.
We’ve seen many incidents where Markle has been seen wearing similar wardrobe styles inspired by Princess Diana’s fashion, but it’s quite shocking that the star received so much hatred just because she wore her alma mater’s iconic purple sweatshirt. At least now we know that she actually went to the elite school, and more than that, she also performed really well in her academics.
