About the SARB External Bursary Scheme 2026

As part of its commitment to addressing South Africa’s skills shortage, the SARB awards bursaries to high-potential students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The bursary supports undergraduate studies in fields relevant to the SARB’s functions, such as:

  • Economics
  • Financial Management
  • Accounting
  • Law
  • Mathematical Statistics
  • Actuarial Science
  • Information Technology

SARB Bursary Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the 2026 bursary, applicants must:

  • Have provisional acceptance into an undergraduate degree at a South African university
  • Achieve an average of 70% or more in their June Grade 12/Matric examinations (bursary subject to final results)
  • Be younger than 30 years old
  • Be in financial need, i.e. unable to afford university without a bursary

What the SARB Bursary Covers

The bursary typically covers:
