The hottest month in Biarritz is August, but with temperatures already reaching 30C, now is an ideal time to visit.

Biarritz is one of France’s most breathtaking coastal cities, renowned for its breathtaking beaches, luxury resorts and Basque cuisine.

And Ryanair flights from Dublin start at just €33 this August.

Situated on France’s southwestern coast, this fabulous city outlooks the Atlantic Ocean – and it attracts thousands of visitors every year with its laid-back atmosphere and sunny weather.

The sunshine spot is also one of the more budget-friendly destinations in the south of France, offering excellent value for money compared to places like Saint-Tropez or Nice.

What’s more, a recent study looked at 500 destinations across France in regards to livability.

Conducted by Le Journal du Dimanche, factors included infrastructure, the local environment and safety.

And Biarritz was named the top place to live, beating other well known French cities such as Lyon (79) and Paris (101).

The city’s mayor said: “Since 2020, we have been working to enhance our heritage, improve daily life, all while preserving our way of life – close to nature and deeply rooted in our culture.”

Biarritz lies along the Bay of Biscay, with miles of golden sandy beaches and lined with surf shops, seafood restaurants and ocean-view cafes.

The underrated sunshine spot is also home to some of the region’s most scenic beaches.

This includes Grande Plage and Côte des Basques – both popular for their soft sands, powerful waves and stunning sunsets over the ocean.

Water-based activities are also hugely popular in the warmer months, such as surfing, paddleboarding and sailing.

What’s more, tourists can take boat trips to spot dolphins, explore hidden coves or discover the rugged Basque coastline from the sea.

For those who prefer to stay on land, there’s plenty to do – including walking tours of the old port, cycling along the coast and shopping in traditional Basque markets.

Biarritz is a fantastic destination for history lovers.

There are tonnes of fascinating sites such as the Rocher de la Vierge, the Biarritz Lighthouse and the elegant Hôtel du Palais, once a royal residence.

VIBRANT NIGHTLIFE

Biarritz is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with bars, pubs, nightclubs and beach clubs offering live music and drinks throughout the year.

Here, you can grab a pint of beer or a cocktail by the beach for around €4 to €8, the perfect way to unwind after a day exploring the town.

And for more of a taste of local flavor, head to the Halles de Biarritz market, where you can sample fresh cheeses, meats and pastries from the region.

The sunshine spot also hosts year-round events, such as the Biarritz Surf Festival, perfect for learning to surf the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Biarritz is easy to get to with direct flights into Biarritz Pays Basque Airport from major European cities – including Dublin.
