Civil servants told to use ‘common sense’ and record ‘vital’ data on biological sex by No10 after damning report

DOWNING Street yesterday demanded civil servants use “common sense” and record “vital” data on biological sex.

It came after a damning report found cancer referrals and convictions were missed because sex was erased from government data.

No10 added: “This is particularly important when it comes to biological sex, for example in healthcare.

“It’s just common sense.”

Health Secretary Wes Streeting vowed to act on findings by Professor Alice Sullivan.

She said NHS patients can change gender on records.

Crime statistics also recorded preferred gender not actual sex.

Mr Streeting said it “underlines the importance of recording biological sex — not just for research and insight, but also patient safety”.

It did “not prevent us from recording, recognising and respecting people’s gender identity where these differ”.

There are also calls for a probe into activism and impartiality within Whitehall data collection.

The Tories said those involved in removing biology from government data records must be punished
