TRIBUTES have poured in for a “loving mum” and “wonderful grandmother” who sadly lost her life in a crash between a car and a truck last week.
Elizabeth ‘Liz’ McGuinness, 71, died in the fatal collision at Platin Terrace, near Drogheda in Co Meath last Tuesday.
Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene of the horror crash shortly after 10:30am but Elizabeth, who was driving the car involved in the incident, was sadly pronounced dead.
There were no other injuries reported at the time.
Elizabeth, who was living in Drogheda and formerly from Glengeary in Co Dublin, has been remembered as an “absolute genuine lady”.
A notice online said: “Liz, loving mum to Declan, Colm, Fiona and Sinéad and wonderful grandmother to Sean, Carl, Isabella, Maizie, Charlie, Aria, Miles, Xavier and Chloe, extended family, relatives and wide circle of friends. May Liz Rest In Peace.”
Mourners said Elizabeth was a “beautiful lady” who “will be greatly missed”.
One said: “It was always a pleasure meeting Liz. She was the type of lady that after chatting with her, you came away all the better for it.
“I have a feeling she made most people feel like that. An absolute genuine lady who will be greatly missed. Rest in peace beautiful Liz.”
Another wrote: “Sending love and keeping you all in my thoughts at this heartbreaking time. I have so many lovely memories of your Mam, always a lady and the most elegant person in every room.”
A third mourner added: “Liz was a wonderfully warm, generous, funny, and always loving presence, who will be greatly missed.”
Others told how they are “completely heartbroken” by the loss of Elizabeth whilst a fourth said her passing comes as a “huge shock”.
She wrote: “Such a terrible and sudden loss of a beautiful lady huge shock for our estate.
“May God and his blessed mother comfort ye and know the thoughts and prayers of your neighbours are rising to heaven in the hope they bring you some comfort.”

Elizabeth’s family confirmed her funeral mass will take place at 11:45am this morning in St Augustine’s Church on Shop Street in Drogheda.
Private cremation will take place afterwards.
Gardai have urged anyone who may have witnessed the fatal crash to come forward with information.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10:00am and 11:00am this morning Thursday 3rd July 2025 are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Ashbourne Garda Station at 01 801 0600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
