I fear it is time I make a confession: I’ve become completely obsessed with a TikTok recipe. I know, I know—I’m usually skeptical about viral food trends (cloud bread, anyone?), but this sweet potato hot honey bowl has me completely hooked.
It all started last week when I kept seeing these colorful bowls popping up on my FYP. The combination seemed odd but intriguing: seasoned ground beef, air-fried sweet potatoes, cottage cheese, avocado, and a drizzle of hot honey. As someone who’s always looking for easy dinner ideas, I figured I’d give it a shot. It’s also worth noting that I despise cottage cheese so as pleasing as it looked on my FYP, I wasn’t sure how I would actually end up feeling about the viral dish.
The first time I made it, I realized I was out of avocado (classic meal-planning fail), so I quickly pivoted and roasted some broccoli instead. Honestly? The substitution worked brilliantly — the slight char on the broccoli added another layer of flavor (and lots of nutrition) that complemented the sweet potatoes perfectly.
I also was unfortunately out of hot honey, so I substituted regular honey and some hot sauce instead. Here’s how the dish looked.

Let me tell you about that first bite: the creamy cottage cheese against the taco-seasoned beef, the caramelized edges of the sweet potatoes, and that spicy-sweet honey and hot sauce combo tying everything together… absolutely mouthwatering. The contrasting textures and temperatures — cold cottage cheese with warm sweet potatoes and beef — created this perfect balance that kept me going back for more.
As a self-proclaimed cottage cheese hater, I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it. The only other time I have actually enjoyed cottage cheese is when I blend it with my eggs to help make my eggs last longer. Granted, dousing the cottage cheese in hot sauce helped hide that cottage cheese flavor that I usually find offputting, but the cottage cheese kind of felt like a chunkier version of sour cream which went nicely with the taco seasoning.
I’ve literally made this bowl every single night since that first attempt. The best part? It’s surprisingly filling and nutrient-dense. I feel satisfied but not weighed down after eating it, which is exactly what I want for a weeknight dinner and I love that it’s loaded with healthy protein, fats, carbs, and fiber.
If you’re on the fence about this TikTok trend, consider this your sign to try it. Just be warned: your dinner rotation might never be the same again.
