Adam Scott Seemingly Pitched Severance’s Sinister Plot Years Ago in a Hilarious ‘Parks and Recreation’ Episode

There have been endless shows that have managed to tickle the brains of the audience with a thought-provoking concept. But when a show brings corporate culture out into the open, it becomes far too relatable for many. The same happened when Severance premiered on Apple TV+ in 2022 and brought forth the dark side of corporate life with a rather eerie twist.

Leading the show was Adam Scott, who gained a lot of applause for his portrayal, and the show itself became one of the highest-rated out there. However, a recently resurfaced video has fans talking, in which the actor can be seen pitching the plot of the show long before it even aired.

Did Adam Scott predict Severance years before it even aired?

Adam Scott has done a number of projects in the industry that have established his true versatility as an actor. But when he became a part of Severance, he took his acting chops to a whole new level. The Apple TV+ show takes the audience into the unsettling world of corporate mind control, where employees undergo a mysterious and eerie procedure to separate their work and personal lives.

While Scott’s portrayal of Mark Scout gathered a lot of acclaim and applause, he had actually predicted the plot of the show in another series. A resurfaced video of Parks and Recreation recently took over X, after which several fan theories started pointing out a joke made by Scott’s character, Ben Wyatt. This joke then became the core premise of Severance that we all love and enjoy today.

In the episode titled Farmer’s Market, Ben casually tells his wife, Leslie, that they should always keep their work and personal lives separate. He said, “Maybe it would be good to keep our home life and our work life separate.” While this was something he mentioned randomly, it now has a different meaning, given that it ultimately became the plot of Severance.

In the same sequence, he also added, “Like we only talk about work stuff when we’re at City Hall, like a firewall system.” This statement also came true, given that in Severance, the surgical procedure that the employees at Lumon undergo installs a “firewall” in their brains.

While all of this is obviously a funny coincidence, it makes everyone wonder just how perfectly aligned the Parks and Recreation episode was with the actual plot of Severance.

Emotional reason why Adam Scott doesn’t watch Park and Recreation

Adam Scott has worked in a number of television hits, one of which was Parks and Recreation. While he had an absolute blast filming the show, don’t expect him to binge-watch it anytime soon. During an interview on Happy Sad Confused with Josh Horowitz, he admitted that watching the sitcom brings back too many emotional memories for him.

The main reason for this is that he misses those days a lot. In the same conversation, he also added that it has been a while since he has even watched a single episode of the show.

The actor played the nerdy yet lovable accountant-turned-politician Ben Wyatt in the show and joined in its second season, staying until the finale in 2015. Looking back at his time on the show, he added, “It was a really joyful five years for me,” and that getting to work with that group of people was something he really enjoyed.

While the show ended nearly a decade ago, he revealed that the cast still stays in touch. But when it comes to a Parks and Recreation reboot, the actor isn’t too sure about it. He believed that the series finale did complete justice to all the characters’ endings.

You can watch Severance on Apple TV+ and Parks and Recreation is available to stream on Prime Video.
