Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta is losing a key defender this summer

According to the BBC, however, the North Londoners and the full-back have reached a settlement which led to the termination of his contract.

That puts an end to the Japan international’s injury-laden, four-year stint at the Emirates.

Since his £20million move to Arsenal from Bologna in 2021, Tomiyasu has dealt with eight different injury setbacks.

The latest of which has seen the right-back getting sidelined due to a knee injury that only allowed him a mere six minutes of football last season.

And the defender still has a long way to go as he faces up to another five months on the shelf after undergoing surgery in February.

The Japanese ace also had to miss the start of last season with a previous knee injury that required surgery in 2023.

Arsenal fans were left heartbroken by the news with many wondering what could have been if such a talented player wasn’t so unlucky.

One Gooner tweeted: “Ah. Loved the player. What could have been…”

Another commented: “Very sad.. Can only wish him the best in his future endeavours.

A third wrote: “Wish him all the best. Injuries took away an excellent player from us sadly.”

This fan said: “We will miss him. All the best Tomi.”

And that one posted: “Man… What a loss…”

Tomiyasu only managed a mere total of 84 appearances with Arsenal the last four years.

Inside Arsenal’s frustrating striker transfer saga

By Jordan Davies

ARSENAL’S never-ending hunt for a world-class striker is in turmoil as deals for Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres stall.

The Gunners were confident of doing their business quickly this summer after months of preparation by boss Mikel Arteta and new sporting director Andrea Berta.

But inflated asking prices and broken gentlemen’s agreements have derailed those plans and left Arsenal frustrated.

Sesko believed he would be allowed to leave RB Leipzig for around £60million, while SunSport understands Gyokeres was told £59m would be enough to seal his own exit.

But those price-tags have gone up, leaving Arsenal debating whether they represent value for money.

While the players’ camps are also growing restless, knowing the Gunners can only sign one of them.

So what next? Will Arsenal keep waiting in the hope of fees eventually going down? Or turn to other targets, like Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike?

Whatever they decide, with pre-season looming and the fixtures already out, Arteta will be desperate for them to move quickly to avoid another nearly season.
