About the Gallagher Foundation Scholarship Programme 2026
The Gallagher Foundation Scholarship supports undergraduate studies at the University of Cape Town (UCT), covering ANY field of study—including 4-year degrees and the 6-year medical degree programme.
This full-cost scholarship is also available internationally for students pursuing degrees at ITESM (Monterrey Campus, Mexico) and Boğaziçi University (Turkey).
What the Gallagher Foundation Scholarship Covers
This is a full scholarship that covers:
- Tuition fees
- Books and academic supplies
- Accommodation and meals
- Transport
- Living allowance
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Be a South African citizen
- Have completed Matric in 2024 or be currently in Matric (Class of 2025)
- Possess a strong academic record
- Intend to study at UCT in 2026 (final selection depends on UCT acceptance)
- Be entering first-year undergraduate studies in 2026
- Be enrolled in a 4-year or 6-year medical programme
- Come from a financially disadvantaged background (household income NOT more than R600 000 per year)
- Demonstrate a high level of ethical values (e.g. peaceful leadership, community impact, integrity)
- Show strong leadership potential (through awards, projects, extracurriculars, community service)
Required Supporting Documents
The following documents must be submitted with your application:
- Full academic record (including latest results)
- Recommendation letter (from a non-family member such as a teacher, mentor, coach, etc.)
- Parent/guardian proof of income (latest payslips, affidavit, pension letter, etc.)
- 4 short essays on:
- A time you failed and what you learned
- Your hopes for your country in 50 years and your role in that vision
- An example of great leadership and what made it effective
- Personal challenges and how you are overcoming them
