A MAN has been killed in a horror workplace accident in Co Wicklow.
The man was fatally injured and died at the scene of the incident, which took place in the Rathdrum area, yesterday afternoon.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene of the fatal accident at around 3pm yesterday afternoon.
The man sadly passed away at the scene.
His body has since been removed to St. Columcille’s Hospital, Loughlinstown where a post mortem will take place in due course.
Gardai said they are investigating the incident and confirmed the Health and Safety Authority has been notified.
A spokesperson said: “Gardai are investigating a fatal work place accident in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow which occurred yesterday afternoon Wednesday 2nd July, 2025 at approximately 3.30pm.
“A man was fatally injured and died at the scene. His body has since been removed to St. Columcille’s Hospital, Loughlinstown where a post mortem will take place in due course.
“The Health and Safety Authority have been notified and investigations are ongoing.”
The Irish Sun has reached out to the HSA for a statement but did not receive an immediate reply.
Separately, a man aged in his 60s died while reportedly working on roadworks in Kilkenny City on Tuesday.
Gardai and emergency services raced to the scene in the Kennyswell Road area at around 11am.
Tragically, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was reported that he was part of staff working on the roads, on the R695, when the incident happened.
The scene was preserved for a technical examination and the road was closed for a short time but has since reopened.
‘IT’S A TRAGEDY’
The Health and Safety Authority noted that it is aware of the incident and has launched an investigation.
Maria Dollard, Deputy Mayor and Green Party Councillor in Kilkenny city described the incident as tragic.
She said: “It’s a tragedy for the family of the man who lost his life and for something like this to happen in the middle of the city.
“The importance of work-related safety can’t be overstated.”
She also expressed her sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of the man.
