When will Willie le Roux earn his 100th Springbok cap?

As the Springbok Test season gets under way this Saturday with a clash against Italy, veteran Willie le Roux will take a step closer to a very special milestone.

Should Le Roux take the field, it will mark his 99th Test match for the Springboks, putting him in line to become only the eighth Springbok centurion in history. He made his Test debut against Italy in Durban in 2013.

The Springbok management team have placed a priority on ensuring these occasions can be celebrated on home soil, and Rassie Erasmus has made it clear that this is the plan for Le Roux during the July Incoming Series.

“We’ve got three matches to do that (get Le Roux to 100 caps),” Erasmus said in reference to the two Tests against Italy, and one against Georgia this month.

“Hopefully, he goes on (at Loftus) and gets to 99 caps and then in the other two matches, we’ll get him into the mix as long as we have momentum and are able to do things on our own terms.

“If we can get what we want out of this game (in Pretoria), he should get his 100th in one of the following matches.”

With this in mind, it’s clear that the fullback could reach the century mark in the second Test against Italy at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, or against Georgia in Nelspruit on 19 July.
