A couple of years before Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt tied the knot in 2014, the actor made headlines thanks to a crazy night out with the guys in Guy Ritchie‘s London pub, ‘The Punchbowl.’
According to a source who confided in the Daily Star (via Digital Spy), Pitt and Ritchie, along with other friends, spent their night drinking only for him to return to his rented Richmond mansion at six in the morning.
“Brad spent the evening boozing with Guy and other pals in Guy’s pub.” The source added that when Jolie saw Pitt’s condition, she was absolutely stunned, especially since it wasn’t something she had witnessed for years.
Ange was shocked he came home in such a state, especially as he hadn’t called her. She said she hadn’t seen him like that in years. Brad blamed it all on British beer.
As for what went down at the pub, the source stated that Pitt and the group drank “real ales” like Bombardier and Spitfire, among others, and the evening ended up being a rare chance for the actor to “let his hair down.”
Perhaps this was a red flag that should’ve had the alarms ringing for Jolie who could’ve had her ex-beau working on fixing his addiction instead of simply ignoring it.
Brad Pitt’s careless behavior with their kids
Jolie starred in the 2010 action/thriller, Salt, but while she was busy filming, Pitt was supposed to be back home taking care of their kids, even if he had the help of nannies.
According to a report by Daily Mail, the actress was working 15 hours a day for the film and when she went back home, she was obviously very exhausted. Thus, when she found Pitt passed out in their bedroom after drinking beer and watching DVDs, she was livid.
Apparently, this triggered the second-big argument between them over a few weeks, leading friends and family to worry about their future.
When Jolie returned home and found the nannies struggling to take care of their six children while Pitt relaxed in the bedroom, she shook him awake. According to the source, the actor simply asked her to leave him alone. They said,
She went upstairs and shook Brad awake. He was like a bear with a sore head and kept telling her to leave him alone.
While Pitt’s struggle with alcohol continued in their marriage, he finally changed for the better after his divorce from Jolie. As per The New York Times, he signed up for Alcoholics Anonymous for a year and found exactly what he was looking for – a safe space with no judgment. Now, he prefers a glass of cranberry juice and fizzy water to keep his alcoholic cravings at bay. Good for him!
