‘You’re all incredible’, declares charity as kid with cancer to get signed GAA jerseys from each county in great gesture

THE GAA community has come together to make an amazing gesture for an “incredible” young Irish cancer patient who “loves jerseys“.

Leon, a young GAA fan and Irish cancer patient, was recently sent home from hospital to be with his family after receiving the devastating news that no more treatment was available.

He and his family have since received thousands of messages of support on Oscar’s Kids Ireland’s Facebook page.

The charity, which helps Irish children and families affected by childhood cancer, featured Leon recently in a post asking for “as many counties to come together and give this incredible boy a signed jersey from their team”.

Leon, a boy who “loves GAA jerseys” is now set to receive signed jerseys from every county in the country.

The plea, which achieved its goal in 12 hours, was inundated with thousands of messages of support.

Official GAA clubs were among those wishing him well and offering their support.

Donegal GAA said: “We would love to send Leon a jersey. We are so sorry to read this, saying prayers for Leon and this family.”

Galway GAA added: “Best wishes to Leon and his family.”

Westmeath Ladies GAA said: “Westmeath Ladies jersey signed by the team heading to Leon.”

Clubs outside of Ireland have even shown their support.

New York GAA commented: “New York will have one for him.”

OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT

Some members of the public were even so touched by Leon’s story that they offered their own signed jerseys in support.

One commenter said: “My son got his Tipperary jersey signed by the team last week and has offered to send it Leon’s way.”

Another added: “Contact me I have a signed Meath jersey which I got for a fundraiser.”

One person even offered a jersey signed by an All-Ireland winning team.

‘INCREDIBLE’

Offering the heartfelt gesture, they said: “Signed Kerry ladies team jersey got from the All-Ireland winning team.”

The charity has been blown away by the show of support online.

It added in an update: “You did it!!!! 12 hours, THOUSANDS of messages publicly and privately, thousands of shares and we’ve sorted every single county for Leon!! You’re all INCREDIBLE.”
