Met Eireann forecaster Rebecca Cantwell explained as today marks the end of meteorological winter, Ireland is set to go on with “fairly settled” weather ahead.

Cantwell said: “Rainfall amounts will be minimal and anything that does fall will be mainly confined to the west and north.

“There’ll be some bright weather on the way at times, too. But first, today it’s a cold start that’ll see frost, ice, mist and any fog clearing through the morning.

“It’ll be a largely dry day with just isolated showers and plenty of sunshine that’ll turn hazy through the afternoon as cloud increases from the west.”

Highs today of 7C to 11C with mostly light to moderate southerly winds are expected.

But overnight temperatures are set to fall to between -1C and 5C in light to moderate southerly winds with some frost developing under clear skies away from the north and west.

Cantwell added: “Rain will continue moving southeastwards across the rest of the country tomorrow morning, becoming lighter and patchy as it does so, and this will be followed by drier and brighter weather then for the rest of the day in highs of seven to 11C.”

Saturday night will be dry with some clear spells, patches of mist and fog will develop in light variable winds.

And some frost and icy patches will also form with lowest temperatures of -1C to +4C.

Cantwell said: “Overnight mist and fog will gradually clear Sunday morning, leaving another generally dry day with some sunny spells and just the chance of isolated showers in highs of 9C to 11C.

“And then as we move into the early days of next week, temperatures will stay mild at generally 10C to 12C.

“Monday being a fairly cloudy day with just patchy light rain or drizzle in the north and west, but staying drier with some bright spells in the south.”

Monday night will see cloudy with patchy light rain or drizzle to blast the west and north of Ireland.

It will be dry with clear spells over the southern half of the country.

Lowest temperatures of 3C to 8C, being coolest in the south under clear spells, in light to moderate southwest winds.

Cantwell added: “While Tuesday looks to be a largely dry day with just hazy spells of sunshine.

“Highest temperatures of 10C to 12C in moderate to fresh southwest winds.
