The new developments in the Elbaph arc in One Piece have made it worthy of being the second storyline of the final saga of the series. I am happy that it has brought forward many intriguing aspects that Eiichiro Oda had kept secret in the past, and one of them is Scopper Gaban, the former member of the Roger Pirates who is currently residing in Elbaph.

I think Gaban was one of the best introductions in One Piece, and we all understand his significance within the story. There are even speculations about him training Luffy for the next step in his journey, which is only going to make him even stronger. However, there is one tradition that I believe Oda is going to break with Gaban’s character.
The way the One Piece story is going on, I am assuming that Oda has some important plan for Gaban, which will force him to battle it out with the God’s Knights. These God’s Knights are about to do something terrible in Elbaph, and it will leave Gaban with no choice but to take them down, which will give us a glimpse of the third strongest character among the Roger Pirates.
The One Piece tradition that Eiichiro Oda has kept for so long
I think all One Piece fans will agree that one of the most exciting moments within the story is when a character from the old era enters the narrative and gives a hint of how cool they were. Be it Silvers Rayleigh or Whitebeard, their presence within the One Piece storyline makes them incredibly significant, and they act as guiding figures to the pirates of the current era.
Although introducing these strong old-era characters certainly creates hype, Eiichiro Oda has always made it a habit to not show the full extent of their powers in One Piece. In Whitebeard’s case, he limited his powers by giving him a disease, and in Rayleigh’s case, he limited his abilities by keeping his screen time limited within the story.

I know that ideally, the story should focus on the characters of the current age who are a part of the central storyline, but robbing the old-era characters of their moment doesn’t feel justifiable. Hopefully, Oda has some plans for them, or he has written a flashback where we can see the true extent of these One Piece characters.
Oda will have to break the ongoing tradition in Elbaph
While Oda has kept the above-mentioned tradition for so long, I believe he will have to break it with Gaban in Elbaph. As seen in One Piece chapter 1141, the newly arrived members of God’s Knights have been ordered to make a game out of capturing the kids of Elbaph by Shamrock. This game could potentially be the Native Hunting Competition, which was held at the God Valley.

If this happens, the God’s Knights will target the kids of Elbaph, and Gaban’s kid Colon is also among them. Gaban will have no chance but to intervene and take on the God’s Knights himself and maybe Loki, who recently was freed, and the Straw Hats might join him in his fight, which could lead to the much-anticipated war of Elbaph in One Piece.
I hope Oda shows the true extent of Gaban’s powers, as they would help us understand what kind of training he might give Luffy or how he will help Luffy in the next step of his journey in One Piece. We will have to wait for the next chapter to find out more about it.
