Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto is a universe filled with eccentric battles, powerful shinobis, complex jutsus, and some gigantic creatures that help the shinobis in their battles. These gigantic creatures are divided into different categories and are thus a unique addition to the storyline, making them quite popular among the Naruto fanbase.

Most of these creatures and monsters are called into the Naruto storyline with the help of a summoning technique called Kuchiyose no Jutsu or Summoning Jutsu. It is indeed one of the most powerful jutsus in Naruto, and not every character can use it and call upon a monstrous summon that could help them win their battle against their opponents.
Kishimoto once revealed why he created the summoning jutsu and what was the influence behind the creatures that were summoned using this. The Naruto mangaka expressed his love for Godzilla, the prehistoric monster, and how he wanted to embed something like that in his own story. And from there on, he added more details to the summoning jutsu and made it incredibly dangerous.
The advantage of using a summoning jutsu in Naruto
The Naruto storyline might have seen a plethora of jutsus, but very few of them can reach the danger level of Kuchiyose no Jutsu. It allows a shinobi to transport weapons, defense gates, gigantic scrolls, and monsters that can vary in size depending upon the user. However, summoning a monster or an animal might not be as easy as it sounds.
In order to use an animal’s power and summon it anywhere and anytime in Naruto, the shinobi needs to sign a contract with them that is valid even after their death. A pinch of blood from the shinobi is used to summon these creatures and the size and strength of them usually depend upon the chakra left within the shinobi’s body.
While the summoned animals are bound by contract, they are not under any obligation to obey their summoners and thus could act on their own will. This indicates that the summoning jutsu is more of a partnership, and both parties play an equal role in it. Usually, Naruto characters can only summon one creature or animal, but Masashi Kishimoto introduced some characters who can transport more than one.
Masashi Kishimoto’s reason for creating the summoning jutsu
After the Naruto series ended, Kishimoto was interviewed by Nippon, where he uncovered some big details about his greatest piece of work. During the interview, Kishimoto was asked about the summoning techniques and the gigantic animals connected with it. Talking about his love for Godzilla, Kishimoto explained the reason behind this mysterious jutsu.

Kishimoto stated:
The entire story of these tailed beasts started out as a simple way for me to get the fox into my manga. I loved Godzilla. I just wanted to draw a monster—something big that I could place in a battle. That’s why I decided to introduce the kuchiyose no jutsu, the summoning skills that let ninja call forth the weapons they need, or call a creature to their side to aid them in a fight. My intent from the start was to bring forth gigantic beings with these skills.
The Naruto manga creator revealed that he always wanted to use monstrous creatures within the story because of his admiration for Godzilla. He knew that it would instantly become a fan-favorite aspect of the story, and that’s exactly what happened.
The summoning jutsu was only a means to transport the giant animals and include them into the narrative, but observing the hype around it among Naruto fans, Kishimoto most likely added more substance to it by including other summons like giant weapons, defense systems, etc.
Naruto is available to watch on Hulu.
