A girl from China who was pursuing her studies in Malaysia made the tragic decision to end her life after she was falsely made to believe she was a suspect in a murder case.
The incident has since left her parents deeply devastated, who never expected their daughter to be mentally and psychologically tormented to the point of suicide.
Was told she was a murder suspect
According to China Press, the victim, Li Bowen (transliteration) had only stayed in Malaysia for five days after arriving on Mar 13 when she got a call from scammers posing as “China police”.
In the call, they accused Li of being a “major suspect” in a criminal syndicate and was even told she was responsible for the death of an elderly woman.

Furthermore, the scammers also demanded 258,000 RMB (approximately RM156,753) in payment from Li to prove her innocence, or risk being arrested by “China police” and be jailed for at least a year.
China student falls from 39th Floor due to mounting pressure
To further ante up the psychological and mental torment, the scammer reportedly monitored Li’s every move in real-time for four consecutive days.
Not wanting to burden her family and unable to handle the increasing pressure, Li sadly decided to end her life at the age of 20 by falling off from the 39th floor of a condominium in Selangor, where her body was found at the sixth floor.

News of her death eventually reached the ears of her parents, who immediately flew to Malaysia on Mar 23 to find out more details about her demise.
‘They brainwashed her’
Speaking to China Press about the incident, Li’s mother said on the day of her daughter’s death, Li had written a 500-word letter, stating she had signed a confidentiality agreement and could not disclose any details.
In the letter, she also cried for help, pleading, ‘Mom, I beg you, please help me! This is the only risk I can take to ask for your help!’
Li also told her mum not to tell anyone about the matter or ask questions about the matter via phone as it would cause her to face at least 10 years in prison.

“When I read the letter, I immediately knew she was scammed and tried to warn her. However, it was too late as I soon lost contact with her.
I believe she was brainwashed by the fake police. She would rather believe the scammers than me. In the end, to avoid burdening the family, she walked down the path of no return, with the letter being her last words to us.
Li’s mother said they sent their daughter to study in Malaysia was because they believed she could have the best future thanks to the country’s relatively low living expenses.
As such, it was a huge shock to them to see Li lose her life after spending only nine days in Malaysia.

“She was a simple-minded person who had a small social circle and knew little of how society operated. She was also very trusting of others.
“She also had a kind heart. Whenever she saw stray cats or dogs on the street, she would stop to pet them. And now…she’s gone just like that,” her mother sobbed.
Li’s body is expected to be taken back to China for burial and her father is calling on the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia to intervene so that police will probe into his daughter’s death.
