Pahang’s Elephant Capture Unit (UTG) has issued a warning to the public regarding safety measures when encountering trucks transporting elephants.
According to the unit, motorists should be extra cautious if they see an elephant facing backward on a transportation truck.
Video of an elephant in transit went viral
Recently, a video uploaded on TikTok by user @pokteh_gajah captured public attention. The footage showed an elephant being transported on a PERHILITAN truck, with its ears flapping in the wind and its trunk raised.
The uploader, who is reportedly a staff member of Pahang’s UTG, advised road users to be vigilant when overtaking such vehicles.

He explained that if an elephant on a truck is facing backward, it indicates that the animal is wild rather than a trained, domesticated elephant.
The public is urged to remain cautious and avoid any actions that might startle or agitate the animal during transportation.
Relocating elephants to safer locations
Elephants are one of the many wild animals commonly found in Malaysia.
They can often be spotted near highways that run close to forested areas. In some cases, elephants stray into residential areas, causing damage to crops, property, and other assets.
To ensure both public safety and the well-being of the elephants, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) relocates these animals to safer locations.
