An update on the pile burning near Silver Lake in the Plumas National Forest’s Mount Hough Ranger District: Patrols and monitoring over the weekend have confirmed that the piles burned last week are holding well and burning down effectively across the approximately 171 acres treated. Today, firefighters successfully treated an additional 30 acres. Although smoke was more visible due to clear conditions, it dispersed well and became less noticeable by late afternoon. This morning, it was determined that the ignition phase for this project area is complete for the spring, covering a total of approximately 201 acres over the past week. Patrols and monitoring will continue over the next several days to ensure the area remains secure. Photos show the piles before ignition and firefighters in action during the operations.
