But now, it’s bringing its big flavours north of the border.

Wendy’s will set up shop in Glasgow, as part of the brand’s ambitious plans to hit 50 UK restaurants before the year ends.

The fast food chain had not been in the UK for over 20 years until its legendary return in 2021.

Wendy’s bosses confirmed back in 2019 that they would return to the UK, but told investors that it would open within 12 to 18 months.

In May 2021, they revealed plans to open around 400 restaurants across the UK, creating 12,000 jobs in the process.

It will now also be branching out to other locations in Ireland, Romania and other spots down south.

The move will see 150 new jobs created, each offering competitive salaries and benefits.

The chain is splashing out a whopping $70million into its Build-To-Suit development fund to fuel its growth.

Wendy’s is popular beyond the US – it’s the third largest burger chain in the world after McDonald’s and Burger King.

The US burger joint, which proudly champions “fresh, quality ingredients”, is famous for its menu staples like the Baconator, the half-pound Dave’s Double and fan favourite the Spicy Chicken Sandwich.

It has also tailored its menu to suit British tastes, with exclusive items like the Avocado Chicken Club, a variety of Chicken Wraps, and chicken nuggets made from whole chicken breast fillet.

And brand-new treats are making their debut, including limited-edition Halloumi Fries and Cinnamon Mini Doughnuts.

Michael Clarke, Managing Director, Europe for The Wendy’s Company said: “We see huge potential in the UK market, with plans to add more than 150 new restaurants across the UK and surrounding countries by 2028. This year, we will focus on accelerating our expansion efforts so more people across the UK can enjoy Wendy’s craveable menu and exceptional customer hospitality. We have a solid foundation in the market and believe we are well-positioned to accelerate our growth trajectory even further.”

He added: “Wendy’s franchisees are at the heart of the brand’s expansion plans, both in the UK and internationally, and strong franchise partnerships enable us to grow at scale.

“We’re deeply committed to supporting our UK franchisees and making co-investments through our Build-To-Suit program, which is a key incentive for them to grow with us.”
