5 Most Controversial Weapons in Fortnite

Fortnite is one of the biggest, if not the biggest live service games in the world right now. Over the years, Epic Games has added a ton of content to the game. While the collaborations and events are what get the most attention, we’ve seen a lot of weapons added and removed from the game.

Of all the weapons that the game has had, some were so good that it forced Epic Games to either nerf or completely remove them. Since we’ve got so many different weapons over the years, it’s hard to remember exactly which ones were the most egregious. So let’s take a look at five of the most controversial weapons that broke Fortnite at some point.

5 Weapons That Broke Fortnite

1. Drum Gun

The Drum Gun was first introduced in Chapter 1, Season 4, and it was a weapon that caused massive controversy. It had the fire rate of an SMG, the damage of an assault rifle, and a massive 50-round magazine. For one season you could act out scenes from old movies and blast everyone with this Tommy gun.

The gun was so powerful that it was vaulted in Season 5, but it has returned in Chapter 6 Season 2 as a mythic weapon used by Midas. Players either loved or hated the Drum Gun. Some liked its firepower while others complained that it made building useless. We do think that it is still one of the most divisive weapons in Fortnite’s history.

2. Shockwave Hammer

The Shockwave Hammer is one of the more recent controversial weapons. Released in Chapter 4, Season 1, the hammer is more than just a weapon because it lets us launch ourselves across the map while dealing heavy damage.

The weapon became infamous for its ability to send players flying. While fun to use, many players felt it was too unpredictable and frustrating to play against. Epic Games eventually nerfed the weapon but it has remained one of the best weapons ever in Fortnite.

3. Guided Missile

The Guided Missile, introduced in Chapter 1, Season 3, was one of the most broken weapons Fortnite had ever seen. Unlike regular rockets, we could control this missile in the air and you can imagine the things it enabled in the hands of players.

At launch, it dealt 105-110 damage per hit and could destroy structures with ease. Players quickly realized that it was the best loadout of that season. It was so overpowered that Epic Games removed it after just a few weeks.

4. Combat Shotgun

We haven’t seen a weapon have a bigger impact in the melee space like the Combat Shotgun. Unlike other shotguns, it had an extremely fast fire rate, tight spread, and solid damage output even at medium range. Players nicknamed it the “Shotgun Sniper” because it could take enemies out from unexpected distances.

5. Infinity Blade

Arguably Fortnite’s most infamous weapon, the Infinity Blade was introduced in Chapter 1 with patch 7.01 and quickly became one of the most overpowered items in the game’s history. If you used the sword, you got an extra 200 health and shields, increased movement speed, and health regeneration.

On top of that, the Infinity Blade could destroy structures with a single hit, so it was nearly impossible for opponents to defend themselves. The weapon was so unbalanced that it was vaulted just days after being added, making it one of the shortest-lived weapons in Fortnite history.

Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of different weapons in Fortnite that shook up the game in both good and bad ways. A lot of them were eventually nerfed or vaulted, but we will forever remember them as part of the game’s long history.
