Two Journalists Killed in Separate Israeli Attacks in Gaza Amid Ongoing Conflict

Two journalists risking lives to report war-torn Gaza’s reality became news themselves Monday. Israeli forces killed Palestine Today’s Mohammad Mansour in Khan Younis during indiscriminate bombing. Same day, Al Jazeera’s Hossam Shabat died in Beit Lahiya after an attack targeted his car.

Despite constant death threats, journalists race across Gaza gathering details of Israeli strikes. Mohammad Mansour, young Palestine Today reporter, lost his life Monday in Khan Younis to a brutal assault.

Months ago, he mourned colleagues Hasan, 19, and Ismail, 27, on social media after their deaths. Al Jazeera’s Hossam Shabat, too, vowed never to abandon this battlefield. Injured last November in an Israeli strike, he kept exposing Gaza’s massacres, rising as a beloved figure at Al Jazeera.

A month ago, during a ceasefire, he shared an emotional video meeting his mother—perhaps sensing it might be their last. When fighting resumed, Shabat grabbed his camera, returning to the frontlines.

Monday, while reporting in Beit Lahiya, Israeli troops struck his vehicle. “I heard an explosion near Indonesian Hospital, rushed over, and saw our colleague targeted,” a fellow journalist said. “Hossam’s car—his blood stains it still.” Palestinian Journalist Syndicate reports at least 208 journalists dead in Gaza over 18 months of Israeli aggression, including seven from Al Jazeera.

Yet, brave souls like Shabat persist. Recently asked about fearing death, he countered, “Should we stop while genocide and bombings rage?” Today, Israel’s brutality silenced his heartbeat.
