Now that we’ve entered the Final Saga of One Piece, fans are curious about who will be the last great antagonist Luffy will face. Amongst the more obvious candidates are Blackbeard, Akainu, and Imu, while some believe it can be Buggy, Shanks, or foresee the return of some former Emperors.

While the final villain is highly unlikely to be Buggy the Clown or a reused former Emperor who has already been defeated, you can’t discount they won’t participate in the Final War. So that leaves the most obvious candidates who Luffy hasn’t faced yet or couldn’t defeat when he did.
Blackbeard has been a villain since the Drum Island Arc. After what he did to Portgas D. Ace and the numerous crimes he’s committed, Luffy has a vendetta against him. He’s also one of the biggest competition in the race for the One Piece. However, what is Imu’s role in Luffy’s journey?
Blackbeard might be the stepping stone to get the One Piece but Imu will be the final villain
The titular legendary treasure is the most wanted item in their world. One Piece hasn’t given us a hint of what it is but the Roger Pirates know the history of the Void Century and what the will of D. really is.
All of the Emperors are gunning for the One Piece but let’s say the victor will be Luffy. He will still have to face Blackbeard at some point and to fight for the treasure is the most opportune moment. But what happens to Imu then? Will they not face any consequences for their crimes?
Eiichiro Oda has hinted a third and final war is approaching. Luffy, being the next Joy Boy and Nika, will lead the rebellion or at least deal the final blow. Imu is certain to be the final villain but only after the protagonist arrives at Laugh Tale and finds the One Piece.
Since we don’t know the nature of the treasure, it could be the secret to defeating Imu. Blackbeard might compete but this is Luffy’s story. Reddit fans seem to agree that this might be the path.

Luffy might not care about the true meaning behind the will of D. but he will certainly care for the fate of the world, especially with the injustice Imu perpetuates.
So while Blackbeard might be the more satisfying final villain to defeat, the Final War against the hidden monarch is coming. Some do believe they might fight each other but who knows?
Blackbeard is a menace who needs to be brought down
Oda has been inspired by historical figures while creating some of his characters. Blackbeard might be the closest to his real-life counterpart. He is a very realistic depiction of a pirate, especially his unrelenting ruthlessness.

His ambition makes him Luffy’s worst enemy. They are two sides of the same coin. While the young pirate seeks to liberate, Blackbeard seeks control. He has two incredibly powerful Devil Fruits. He might not be the final villain but he will be the most annoying.
However, we can’t deny his defeat will be the most satisfying one. He has had it coming to him for a while. Luffy deserves some closure for Ace. If there’s any pirate who needs to be stopped, it’s Blackbeard, especially now that he imprisoned Garp.
