Following his win at the Elimination Chamber 2025, John Cena sent shock waves to his fans after he decided to join forces with The Rock and turned heel for the first time since 2003. He appeared in the ring once again on March 24th, 2025 in Glasgow, Scotland, and addressed the crowd, calling them out for their hypocritical nature.

It has been known that John Cena is set to retire, and addressing the same, he said he intends to disappoint fans and ruin their wrestling experience. He mentioned at WrestleMania he would make history by winning a 17th championship and making everyone forget Ric Flair. (via WWE)
Cena noted that he would win the championship and retire with it, hinting he was taking the championship belt with him and leaving everyone to create a new toy belt because the real one would be coming with him to his home. John Cena sternly said, ‘I will be the last real champion in WWE.’
Wrestling veteran Matt Hardy recently praised John Cena’s heel promo by saying that he liked it on his The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy Podcast. Hardy explained that what he liked was the fact that he didn’t change, and the explanation he gave for it is the people asking, “What are we going to get that is new?” He noted that John Cena’s promo clearly explained that he did not want to give the audience anything.
He further commented,
Probably the only thing I would be critical of is just maybe if they would have kind of delved into why he chose to side with The Rock like that. That would have been the only thing I feel like I would’ve loved to hear from.
Matt Hardy mentioned that according to him, John Cena did a really good job at just being a whiny, b***hy guy who just felt like he’d been wronged, and he came off very unlikable while doing it. This is what one needs out of John Cena.
During the episode on RAW, Cody Rhodes appeared in the ring to confront John Cena and told him that he needed to take the title from him first, adding that he was not going to leave with the championship.
Fans noticed John Cena’s tears during Monday Night RAW’s heel promo
John Cena decided to break his 25-year streak as a golden boy of WWE and turned heel following a cue from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. He appeared in the promo for RAW on March 17, 2025, where he blamed the audience for his decision, as he believed that they had wronged him for the past 25 years, and now he’s had enough.
As the actor-wrestler was addressing the crowd last week, an X user noticed that even though he was calling out his fans by stating that they had been awful to him all these years, he had tears in his eyes.
John Cena has been one of the good guys for a very long time in the industry, and people admire and respect him for the same, so his turning heel and blaming the audience did not sit right with the audience.
