Actress-singer Rachel Zegler achieved worldwide recognition after she starred in Steven Spielberg’s musical adaptation of West Side Story as María. Not only was the actress highly appreciated for her portrayal of the character, but she also earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress-Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her work in the movie. Zegler later appeared in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, and others.

Zegler’s most recent work is Snow White in Disney’s Snow White alongside Gal Gadot. The musical fantasy movie is a live-action reimagining of 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Snow White has found itself in hot waters since the announcement, and Zegler’s comments about the original movie just work, like adding fuel to the fire. However, fans have found an old clip of the actress urging her followers to unfollow her if they disagree with her statements.
Rachel Zegler asked fans to unfollow her if not voting for Kamala Harris
Actress Rachel Zegler has been very vocal about her support for former Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris for the presidential election in 2024. She took to her social media at the time to urge her fans to vote for Harris by saying (via Oli London)
Vote for Kamala Harris. And it’s actually non-negotiable. Our rights are on the line, folks. Our reproductive rights. And if you disagree with this sentiment, you can hit the unfollow button. I don’t need your business.
After Kamala Harris lost to Donald Trump, Zegler once again took to her social media to express her frustration and disappointment. She wrote in her story that she finds herself speechless that another four years of hatred is leaning towards the people of the United States.

The actress added that she does not want to live in a world where that will be hard to raise her daughter, a world where her daughter will be forced to raise a baby she does not want. Rachel Zegler added that they are leaning towards a world that is fearful adding that she is not shocked but she is indeed heartbroken. (via X User),
F**k Donald Trump. May Trump supporters and Trump himself never know peace.
After her statement on social media, she received a lot of backlash online, including from Megyn Kelly, who stated at the time on her Sirius Radio Show, The Megyn Kelly Show, that she should be fired from Disney’s Snow White. She said,
Hello, Disney! You’re going to have to redo your film again because this woman is a pig, and you fired Gina Carano for far less than this nonsense. She has to go. I’m sorry, Disney, she has to go right now. There’s something wrong with this person.
According to Variety, the actress, after the backlash, apologized and mentioned that she let her emotions get the best of her. She added hatred and anger caused her to move further and further away from peace and understanding. Zegler lastly added that she is apologetic to have contributed to the negative discourse.
Rachel Zegler celebrates Snow White’s debut despite failing to meet box office expectations
Disney’s Snow White, despite Rachel Zegler’s comments about the original movie, got fans excited as it’s one of the classics, but THR reported that the movie has failed to meet the expectations at the box office over the weekend. The publication mentioned that the studios hoped that they’d be able to clear $100 million over the opening weekend, but it opened to $87.3 million.

With a production budget of $270 million and an additional cost of $100 million for marketing, Snow White is hinting at a sleeper hit. But the young actress took to her social media to celebrate her movie’s debut. She shared a picture of her from the trailer on the movie’s set, adding two emojis: a red apple & a snowflake.
#1 Movie in the world.
In an interview with Allure Magazine, Zegler upon asking how she landed the role of Snow White, said the reality is that she was given a chance because she could sing. The actress sang Waiting on a Wish during her audition and impressed the co-producer, Marc Platt, and director Marc Webb.
Disney’s live-action adaptation remake garnered attention for all the wrong reasons, including the casting of Zegler, who is of Colombian and Polish descent and faced racist backlash from online users. It was also noted that things were just ‘cordial’ between Zegler and Gal Gadot, as they both have different political views, and CGI dwarfs and muddled tone in the movie weren’t appreciated at all.
Reviews have suggested that it’s not one of the best live-action adaptations, but it’s not bad either. Zegler’s performance as the titular character has been appreciated, whereas Gadot’s performance drew criticism. The movie holds a 43% critic score and a 74% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Snow White is available in theatres.
