Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad’s (MAHB) has now found its cybersecurity in jeopardy after hackers managed to hijack its digital system and demanded a huge sum of money as well.
This troubling incident was revealed by prime minister Anwar Ibrahim during the 218th Police Day Celebrations today (Mar 25).
Hackers infiltrate MAHB’s system, demanded RM44mil
In his speech, Anwar said the alleged cyber-attack took place “one to two days ago”, prompting a discussion among the authorities over what to do.
Yesterday, we discussed the cyberattack that seriously impacted MAHB. The discussion focused on how to resolve the matter, including the hackers’ demand for US$10 million (approx. RM44mil).

“I didn’t wait five seconds before immediately saying no,” he said as quoted by FMT.
Anwar added Malaysia’s security would be at risk if its leaders caved in to such ultimatums from criminals, both domestic and foreign ones.
Although he didn’t reveal further details about the hack, Anwar called for more funding to be given to the police and the central bank to bolster their defence against cyber-attacks.

At the time of writing, the Home Ministry has yet to release an official statement about the incident.
