Meghan mocked by followers over claim pal ‘reinvented’ banana split dessert

MEGHAN Markle claimed her pal had “reinvented” the banana split – despite the dish being more than 120 years old.

The Duchess of Sussex posted a new Instagram story filming pal Kelly Zajfen adding granola, strawberries, blueberries and jam to the popular dessert choice.

Alongside the post, she added: “When one of the besties reinvents a banana split for breakfast”.

After tasting the food in her video, Meghan gives an approving “Mm”, while pal Kelly adds: “It tastes so good.”

Meghan, 43, also added a close-up photo of the bananas and tagged her new As Ever brand’s social media page.

But critics pointed out that the popular banana dessert, most commonly served with vanilla ice cream, was invented in 1904 by David “Doc” Strickler, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

It has since been a staple in homes and restaurants around the world with hundreds of different topping combinations.

In 2019, Meghan wrote inspirational comments on bananas distributed to prostitutes during an impromptu stop with Prince Harry at the One25 charity in Bristol.
