While Princess Catherine of Wales, better known as Kate Middleton, and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, seemingly had a frosty relationship since day one, it seems they had no help from Queen Camilla.
“Camilla is always looking out for herself first,” an insider said to InTouch Weekly. “Kate and Meghan made good targets. Quite simply, if the princesses were constantly at war, then anything negative out there about her and Charles would be of limited interest. Kate and Meghan never had a chance.”
With this new piece of information, insiders allege that Camilla has played a big role in the feud, further claiming that Camilla’s reported feuds with both Kate and Meghan have spurred all of this mess on.
Sources told Us Weekly that Camilla and Kate have a frostier relationship. They said that Camilla is “particularly hesitant to pass on her duties to Kate” because they “always had a tense relationship,” dating back to when Kate and William first started dating.
Back in the summer of 2024, according to a close source who spoke with Daily Express via MSN, Camilla “ruffled a few feathers” because she banned both Kate and Sophie Wessex from wearing blue at royal engagements, despite blue being Kate’s go-to color.
“The Queen is now able to choose her outfits before all the other women in the royal family. It’s part of the royal pecking order and that includes the clothes and color,” the source said. “Her Majesty’s favorite color is blue and so is Kate’s. Sophie is also quite fond of it.”
Along with that, feud rumors soared when Camilla invited Rose Hanbury to King Charles III’s coronation, despite the ongoing rumors about Hanbury and William’s alleged affair. So, it’s clear Camilla and Kate never had a great standing. But what about Camilla and Meghan?
In Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, Harry revealed that he and Camilla have always been distant, and it bled over into Camilla’s relationship with Meghan. In fact, he spoke about how Megan reached out to Camilla, about trying to handle the bad press. He wrote that Camilla didn’t help, saying, “Meg, meanwhile, reached out to Camilla, who tried to counsel her by saying this was just what the press always did to newcomers, that it would all pass in due time, that Camilla had been the bad guy once.”
According to Omid Scobie’s book Endgame, Camilla allegedly sent a message of gratitude to Piers Morgan for “defending the Firm.” In fact, a palace aide reportedly told Scobie that Camilla was full of “gratitude” that “somebody was standing up” to Meghan’s bombshell claims, per UsMagazine.
(Back in 2021, Morgan said on Good Morning Britain that he “wouldn’t believe [Meghan] if she read me a weather report,” and went on to insinuate she’s a “Pinocchio Princess,” and allegedly, Camilla thanked him for it.)
So, Camilla’s relationship with both women are frosty, and allegedly, she’s the one lending a helping hand to make their feud even frostier.
Per UsMagazine, Meghan and Kate started off on good footing, with Meghan reportedly helping out with the Wales children and giving small gifts. However, reports also claimed that Kate wasn’t a fan of Meghan’s affectionate side. In 2019, it was reported that they were “civil,” but things went sour after Meghan and Harry left for the US.
