Black Clover has had some awesome episodes, but at the same time, some of the episodes have been extremely mediocre. Fans have often complained about the amount of fillers in Black Clover anime, and one episode in particular did Yuki Tabata a great injustice.
The episode in question is episode 82 of Black Clover (season 2, episode 31) titled Petit Clover! The Nightmarish Charmy SP!. The episode is termed a filler, but even so, fans have been extremely discouraged by it.

So, why exactly did Black Clover have such a horrendous episode? And what was the point of it all?
Black Clover‘s worst-rated episode can’t even be called a proper filler
Episode 82 of Black Clover is the worst-rated episode of the anime. It has a 2.7 rating on IMDB at the moment, and it won’t be increasing anytime soon. But why do Black Clover fans hate this particular episode with such passion?
For starters, episode 82 is just a recap episode for everything that happened before it. Throughout its runtime, the anime showed the Black Clover characters in chibi forms and recapped what had happened previously in a funny and chirpy manner. But at the same time, this episode can be called nothing but an OVA.
The episode does not have any original elements to call it filler and nor does it follow the plot. The recap of the characters and the arcs one after another becomes pretty boring after the initial 10 minutes. It’s almost like watching a YouTube compilation video that is a bit too long for anyone to complete. The fact that it occurs after a cliffhanger episode is even more diabolical.

Episode 82 was actually aired during the Golden Week in Japan, which is a holiday period during which most anime and manga go on a break. Thus, this low-effort episode was created to keep fans occupied while staff members could go on a break. But fans wish that the staff had just taken a break rather than create this episode.
Black Clover episode 82 did an injustice to Yuki Tabata

Episode 82 begins with Charmy, who has left the battlefield to search for meal ingredients in a nearby forest (typical Charmy). But she accidentally eats some poisonous mushrooms, which are also hallucinogenic. So while she lays there writhing in agony with her sheep, she dreams up the entire episode.
But at the same time, it just shows Charmy in a bad light and does not even reveal much about her, which would have actually been a better addition. Rather than expanding on the backstory, the episode went on to become a recap compilation. But the biggest disrespect was done to Yuki Tabata.
Charmy’s character was inspired by Tabata’s wife, which he claimed in an interview. Her caring nature made him create Charmy, which is an extremely sweet act, in fact, she is also the author’s favorite character. However, Charmy herself didn’t get any character development in the entire episode and was just shown as a glutton.
Black Clover anime is available to stream on Crunchyroll, and the manga can be read on Viz Media.
