The Undertaker has delivered some of the most exciting matches ever seen in the WWE. However, fans were deprived of what might have been an unforgettable WrestleMania showdown. The Undertaker was prepared to take on John Cena in a WrestleMania 34 squash match that promised to be an epic showdown, but turned into a disappointment because of some last-minute decisions.
The much-anticipated clash between Cena and the Deadman promised a grueling “45-minute war,” but instead unfolded as a lackluster 3-minute match, a disappointment attributed to the decisions of former WWE chairman Vince McMahon and John Cena himself.

The Undertaker reveals why his WrestleMania 34 bout against John Cena was incredibly short
In an interview with Bully Ray on Busted Open Radio, the Undertaker opened up on the behind-the-scenes incidents that led to the shortening of his match against John Cena.
Yeah, I didn’t know it was gonna be short till I got there that day. So, I’ve trained for a 45-minute war, right, and all right, here’s redemption. I’m gonna, man, I am going to light this place on fire, I felt good. And Vince calls me into his office and he goes okay, he says it’s just gonna be about five minutes, you know, you’re gonna squash him. “
“I’m like, what? What? And, you know, Vince, he just thought that was the funniest [thing], because he knew how hard I’d been training. I mean, he, and I’m like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I said, I’m going. I said, I’m doing 30 or I’m not going out. And he’s like, Mark, that’s not what we need.”

This disappointed fans and wrestlers alike as everybody had high expectations from this match and wanted to witness a proper showdown between these two legends of the promotion, especially when the Undertaker was dead serious about the fight and trained like hell to get into a proper shape.
Fans blamed Vince McMahon for his decision to shorten the match, but the former WWE CEO was not the only one behind this; John Cena shares equal blame.
The Undertaker reveals that John Cena supported Vince McMahon’s decision to shorten their match

In the interview, The Undertaker revealed that John Cena could have prevented the situation but chose to align with McMahon instead of supporting The Deadman’s plea to maintain the original length of the match.
“And I’m like no Vince, I was like, Where’s John? Where’s he at? So John comes in he goes, Oh no. He goes I talked mad smack about you dude. Yeah, you need to beat me quick and get this over with. I’m like are you kidding me? It’s like we’ve never worked on pay-per-view are you [serious]? And this is WrestleMania, give me a break here.”
Vince McMahon and John Cena then went on to force The Undertaker into submitting to their demand. Undertaker also revealed how McMahon found it funny that The Deadman trained like hell for the match but it all went in vain.
Had John Cena and Vince McMahon supported The Undertaker’s decision, fans might have been treated to a match for the ages. Instead, what unfolded was a disappointing bout, lost to obscurity. With legends like Cena and The Undertaker—two of the biggest names in WWE history—we may never witness these two superstars clash in the ring again.
