It was the year 2009 when the world was introduced to the life of forensic detectives in an iconic show called NCIS: Los Angeles. Featuring some iconic stars like Linda Hunt and Daniela Ruah, the show became a fan-favorite.
Much like every other show, NCIS: Los Angeles had its ups and downs. However, the ups and downs of Linda Hunt’s life were quite a bit too much. Thanks to her resistance, the world was able to witness an iconic actor shining in her role.

Linda Hunt was told to quit acting
Portraying the role of Henrietta Lange, the world fell in love with Linda Hunt and how masterful she was as the Operations Manager at NCIS. The character was ferocious in nature and, despite being timid, was an intimidating character.

Hunt portrayed the role for a total of 14 years before the show concluded in 2023. However, the world would have never gotten the iconic character if Linda Hunt had listened to her peers.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Hunt talked about her personal life and how she was always looked down on for pursuing the art of acting, and how she wanted to take a directing course because she was a woman.
For a while, I thought, maybe I should direct until I got to New York and saw the stupidity of that idea. If it’s hard to get into acting, what is it like for a woman to become a director? I stuck to my guns.
Although her peers looked down on her and she received judgmental eyes for pursuing acting, Linda Hunt didn’t back down and finally got her dream come true.
It wasn’t without support, though, since Hunt credited her father and mother for supporting her “most diligently” during a time when the world looked down on her. Hunt fondly remembered her parents and thanked them for being a strong support system.
Linda Hunt’s father saw her take an award for her acting
Although Hunt had her parents’ support when she chose to take up acting, her father did try to get her a teaching degree. With Hunt’s resistance, she fulfilled her dream, and then something magical happened.

During the Academy Award ceremony, Linda Hunt was called on the stage and bestowed an Oscar for her acting skills. Her parents were there in the crowd, cheering her on. As the interview continued, Hunt talked about that particular time.
He [her father] lived through the Academy Awards and died about 18 months later of a stroke. It now means a great deal that he got to be there. My father was so relieved when I won that award. He was like, ‘You know what? I guess she’s right. She’s going to be okay.’
The actress won an Oscar for her role in the 1983 film The Year of Living Dangerously and is the only woman to receive an Oscar for a role in portraying a male character!
With 14 seasons under her belt, Linda Hunt became a legendary name in the world of NCIS: Los Angeles. The show has a rating of 6.8/10 on IMDb and an equal of 68% on Rotten Tomatoes.
NCIS: Los Angeles is available to buy on Apple TV+.
