Charlize Theron seems to be having quite a lot of fun collaborating with Seth Rogen, as the actress appeared in another role in the Rogen-helmed project. The first time was with The Boys, where the Multiverse of Madness alum cameoed as an on-screen, fake version of Stormlight, who had a very public relationship with Homelander, tarnishing his image when she was outed as a Nazi.
Theron would appear next in a hilarious cameo in Seth Rogen’s uber-meta comedy series for Apple TV+: The Studio. The duo have some history together, starring in the horribly underrated rom-com, Long Shot, which failed to make a splash at the box office.

Charlize Theron appears as herself in the show, delivering one of the most hilarious lines in the show, albeit there have been only two episodes out so far. Given the history that Seth Rogen and Theron have had, it made the moment even more hilarious, thanks to the nature of Rogen’s role in the show.
The Studio gave Charlize Theron the best cameo in it’s premiere

The plot of the premiere of The Studio, had Seth Rogen‘s character receiving a promotion, but with the focus on him greenlighting a franchise film. Rogen’s character, Matt Remick, tries to pitch a script he brought off of Martin Scorsese for that purpose, reworking it to fit the franchise, only for it to be shot down. It must be noted that Charlize Theron (playing herself) was throwing a party to which Remick was not invited. However, he received an invitation as soon as he decided he wanted to help Scorsese with his film.
When he does arrive at the party, Remick has the painful job of telling Scorsese that his film has been rejected and that he cannot take it anywhere else to get it produced either. Not only does this cause Scrosese to break down in tears. Theron personally goes out of her way to kick Remick and his friend Sal out of the party. The episode is capped by the duo going home, and watching Scorsese’s The Goodfellas.
What is hilarious about Theron’s line is the fact that Rogen has had a horrible time at the studio, being shot down and shut out right after his promotion, which resulted in not only losing out on a film that he would love to make but then also being diminished in the eyes of one of his personal heroes.
The Long Shot is the best way to communicate the show’s delliema

The Long Shot, which starred Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, and cost about $40 million (via Forbes)to make, is the best example of what the thesis of The Studio is. The film was very well received by critics and fans, but the film bombed commercially, making only $53.9 million (via Box Office Mojo), which is not a lot of money given all that is spent on marketing and distribution.
The Studio talks about the delicate balances that need to be maintained when dealing with art and the commerce of art, which means that good films, that are actually artistic, might not get the love that people expect them to get, and that what ends up being churned out, ends up making all the money, whether it is good or bad.
The Studio can be streamed on Apple TV+
